When you use the “1-2-3” step Mount Medix in your production process you can produce insect-proofed taxidermy mounts:

Step 1 – Mount Saver Glue Additive

This is the first step in the Mount Medix long-term taxidermy insect protection program. The Mount Saver Glue Additive is simple mixed into the glue at a rate of 1.5% by weight. Mount Saver Glue Additive is compatible with all common taxidermy adhesives. The Glue Additive can be used with pastes, two-part epoxies and glues without changing the set-up/dry-time or the adhesion properties of the adhesives. It can also be used to mix in PU foam. 

Step 2 – Mount Saver Hide Pre Soak

The Pre Soak additive is simply mixed into cool water that is used as the presoak or rinses. 1 tablespoon in 4 litres of cool water is enough. Any wet tanned hide can be rinsed or washed in the solution. The solution can also be used as rehydration in dry tan applications. For some added protection, the Diluted Pre-soak can be sprayed on the hide, as a moistening agent before mounting.

Mount Saver Hoof and Horn (H&H) is a specialized formulation of Mount Saver designed to penetrate the soft fatty tissue inside horn cores and soft areas in hooves.  These areas are notoriously hard to access an often contain residual tissue that will attract dermestid.  If H&H is injected or applied into these hard-to-reach areas, it will render any residual tissue inedible to the dermestid.  H&H is designed to avoid potential damage by applying the H&H during the mounting process and is also used for treating an infestation.

Mount Saver Powder, which is specially formulated to be used in dry applications to clean out insect infestation.  The powder carries the ingredients as other Mount Medix products but is formulated as an insoluble powder that will not dissolve or dissipate during processing. To use, simply sprinkled onto areas where insect protection is required. 

Example of uses: 

Bird Taxidermy: Formulated to replace borax in bird taxidermy.  Apply enough powder to coat the skin.  

Tumbler Additive: Add 1/2 cup of powder for every dry gallon of material.

Horns: Liberally apply to the inside of the cavities after all tissue is removed and before reattachment to the core. 

Habitats: Use to dust habitat areas, like moss, grass and dirt, to prevent insect infestation.    

Hide Storage: Can be used for tanned or salted skins that are being stored.

Step 3 – Mount Protector

The final step in the “1-2-3 step” to ensure insect-free taxidermy mounts is the Mount Protector.

Simply said, it’s like furniture polish for taxidermy. In conjunction with Step 1 and Step 2 Mount Protector will eliminate the taxidermy mount as a food source for insects and their larvae when used for routine semi-annual cleaning. Mist it on and wipe away any excess. Mount Protector will provide deterrence for insect infestation when used for routine semi-annual cleaning. This product also contains conditioners to prevent drying out of the hair and hide, as well as make the mount easier to keep clean. Mount Protector will leave the mount smelling fresh and clean.  Mount Protector can be used on most mount surfaces, including hair, feather, antler, horns, hoof, paws and even habitat. When used in conjunction with other Mount Saver products, Mount Protector can provide years of worry-free protection against insect infestation. Note: We do not recommend using Mount Protector on fish without testing its compatibility with the clear coats and finishes on the fish before use. This product will not create a tacky build-up and can be used multiple time s a year for the life of the mount.

You have several options here:

1. You can offer your client a treatment as a consultancy service. On location in the client’s trophy room or ask the client to bring the taxidermy mounts for treatment in your taxidermy workshop.
2. You can offer you client to buy all needed products from you for a client “Do-It -Yourself” treatment

The Mount Protector treatment can be supplemented with Mount Saver Hoof & Horn treatment, Mount Saver Powder treatment for habitats, plus injection of Mount Saver Pre Soak in hollow areas between the horns and horn bases.

Mount Fade Protector was created to protect the colour of the mounts. It will stop the colour fade or yellowing that occurs with all mounts as the age and are exposed to natural and artificial light. Fade Protector is sprayed on the mount, allowed to dry, where it bonds to hair, fur and feathers to create a long-lasting protective barrier against artificial and natural light. Since colour change is a relatively slow and irreversible process, most people don’t realize it’s occurring until it’s too late. If the mounts are close to windows or in rooms that are frequently lighted, this product is a must-have!!

Horn and Antler Conditioner is a penetrating siliconized oil blend that does not leave a sticky residue. Creates an authentic sheen and enhances the natural colour of the horn or antler. Simply apply, wait an hour and wipe off excess. Makes cleaning and dusk removal easier since the siliconized oils help shed dirt.

Taxidermy Eye Polish will renew the sheen to older eyes. This product is an excellent eye cleaner.  For Professionals: When the Eye Polish is applied to the eyes and allowed to dry before mounting. The removal of glue and paint can be done with a cotton swab wetted with the cleaner
